The Flower Challenge #61 'Use a Shape'

Hi there crafty friends, I hope that you are doing ok? It's October and we have a new challenge for you over at 'The Flower Challenge' once more. This month our theme is 'Use a Shape'.

Not only that it's also our 5th Birthday too! We have 11 prizes to give away this time, see our blog for all details. Can't believe it's been 5 years already...wow!!

Please make sure to add where you live after your name when taking part this time so we can allocate prizes more easily re postage (see our blog for more details)......example...(Viv UK)

Our Talented Guest Designer this month is the fabulous Emily Midgett, visit her website and also on Instagram too. Not only does Emily make cards she is also an awesome illustrator too, she is just amazing !!

Anyway back to our challenge, we would like you to use a shape...any shape will do, a square, a circle or an odd sentiment shape, just make sure there is a shape on your card somewhere! Or even make a shaped card!

I decided to go mad and make two cards, the first one was even more fiddly than the second one, but I did like the final result. I used some pretty lilac card and even the dreaded acetate too for a change on my second card. All details below.

Thanks for the visit and enjoy your week whatever you have planned. Now do please come and take a peek at my cards below ;)

For this shaped card I used my Spellbinders Venise Lace series 'Marcheline Plume' dies. I made a hinge at the top so my card would be all in one piece. Google it if you are unsure what that is, but basically it's  cutting two pieces, just leaving a little bit extra card at the top of one. Then folding it over and sticking to make a whole card.

I printed my sentiment  (Altenew Beautiful quotes) on my circle piece, then added my flowers using the (Altenew Stunning Cosmos) stamp. I coloured the flowers using Memento Angel Pink then some Avery Elle Raspberry over the top.

For more interest I also used some white fronds, using a (Die-namics Leafy Flourish) die. Altenew enamel dots and a few clear sequins completed my card.

Quick close up!

2nd card

First I made by card base, I cut a square card base then cut a section out in the middle. I wanted to add acetate in the middle section but I couldn't find any after scouring my craft room. Instead I used a plastic stamp holder bag, just cutting the end off... he he!

Next I used my Spellbinders 'Victorian Bow' dies to cut my shapes. I used a Lavinia 'pebble' stencil and some distress inks for the backgrounds then stamped using  Pink Fresh Studio 'Infinite Blooms' in black ink.

I layered the two dies on top of the card sections, using 3d pads on the top one. Finally I water coloured the flowers and leaves on the top die and added some Diamond dust for sparkle and also a few clear gems.

Talk about fancy - that first card definitely is, Viv. The die cut is fabulous. I love the acetate on the secod card - a technique I need to try.
